About

Overview

SOMAS is a 2-year Marie Curie Co-FUND project, hosted under the ONISILOS programme at the University of Cyprus. The project deals with the knowledge about sustainability that is implicitly embedded in the practices of textile artisans and artists. The main purpose of the project is to find holistic methods for mapping and communicating this valuable knowledge in order to contribute to a shift in perceptions about sustainability in fashion and design.

„Engaging with tacit knowledge in textile practices through the lens of conceptual metaphor theory”.

Approach

The approach adopted by the project is a practice-led one, which means that empirical research is conducted through specific experimental sessions with textile artisans and artists. These results are then used to develop strategies and hands-on practices for immersive exhibitions around the textile work, that are in line with the hidden knowledge embedded in this form of craftsmanship and creative practice.
